Medication-Assisted Treatment in Kansas

Our Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) program thoughtfully combines FDA-approved medications for Substance Use Disorder with evidence-based therapies to address the physical, emotional, and social needs of individuals in addiction recovery.

What is Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)?

Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is an approach to treating substance use disorders. It combines FDA-approved medications with counseling and behavioral therapies to address both the physical and psychological components of addiction.

MAT has been shown to prevent overdoses, increase patient survival rates, improve treatment outcomes, and even decrease criminal activity related to opioid use.

Key components of MAT programs typically include:

Medication

MAT uses medication such as methadone, buprenorphine, naltrexone, and acamprosate to ease withdrawal symptoms and prevent substance cravings.

Behavioral Therapies

This is often a combination of individual, group, and family therapy to address the psychological and social aspects of addiction.

Case Management

A team of case managers connects individuals with aftercare services to address medical, family, housing, employment, financial, and legal concerns.

Medications for Substance Use Disorders

FDA-approved medications to help reduce cravings, manage withdrawal symptoms, and support long-term recovery. These medications are prescribed and monitored by licensed medical professionals

Medications for Alcohol Use Disorder

Naltrexone

Helps block the rewarding effects of alcohol, supporting abstinence and relapse prevention.

Acamprosate

Helps restore balance in the brain after long-term alcohol use and may reduce ongoing cravings, particularly for individuals maintaining abstinence.

Disulfiram

Creates an unpleasant physical reaction when alcohol is consumed, serving as a deterrent and supporting accountability in recovery.

Medications for Opioid Use Disorder

Buprenorphine

A partial opioid agonist that helps reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms while lowering the risk of misuse.

Methadone

A long-acting opioid agonist that reduces withdrawal symptoms and cravings when provided in regulated, clinically supervised settings.

Naltrexone

Works by blocking opioid receptors, preventing the euphoric effects of opioids, and supporting relapse prevention during and after withdrawal management.

How Medication-Assisted Treatment Supports Lasting Recovery

Our Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) program is guided by evidence-based practices and Kansas care requirements to ensure safe, individualized treatment plans and continuity of care.

From your first contact, our clinical team conducts a thorough assessment and involves you in building your treatment plan to reflect your history, goals, preferences, and any co-occurring conditions.

Alcohol Use Disorder

For individuals struggling with Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD), Medication-Assisted Treatment can help reduce cravings, support abstinence, and lower the risk of relapse. When clinically appropriate, FDA-approved medications may be used alongside individual therapy, group counseling, and recovery education.

Treatment plans are individualized and designed to support both physical stabilization and long-term behavioral change. Our team also addresses co-occurring mental health conditions, stressors, and trauma that may contribute to alcohol use, helping clients build healthier coping strategies and sustainable recovery skills.

Opioid Use Disorder

Medication-Assisted Treatment is a proven, evidence-based approach for treating Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). MAT helps reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings while supporting brain stabilization, allowing individuals to focus on recovery without the constant disruption of opioid dependence.

MAT for OUD is delivered under close medical supervision and combined with counseling and behavioral therapies. Treatment plans are regularly reviewed and adjusted by licensed clinicians in accordance with Kansas regulations, ensuring care remains safe, responsive, and aligned with each client’s recovery goals.
